Along the Line
A sculptural commission for the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic Villingen-Schwenningen
Our lives follow a linear path – sometimes taking hard detours, when deep emotions dictate our actions and thoughts – sometimes in peaceful repose, when we are balanced or concentrated on our fate, looking for internal solutions that can lead us out of difficult situations.
For many, going into hospital is a journey into the uncertain: What is the diagnosis, how will treatment proceed, will I have to be operated on, can I be helped here…? Existential questions put our own life into focus.
A sculptural commission should thus be neither pure decoration nor civic furnishing, it should not tell a one-liner that consumes our time, but rather it should take on an active and responsible role in the perceptions of people who encounter it … a spiritual companion.
Through a broad associative spectrum, it should enable a long-term affect to unfold within people of all kinds of origin and internal mindsets and dispositions and animate curiosity.
